Year Ahead Tarot Spread
Use the Year Ahead spread at a turning point — a birthday, the new year, the start of a fiscal or academic cycle. It reads each month and a thirteenth card that names the year as a whole.
✦Overview
Twelve cards arranged in a circle, one for each month, plus a thirteenth card in the center for the year's overarching theme. The strength of the spread is rhythm — you can see which months carry weight and which are quieter, and the theme card reframes the whole circle as a single chapter rather than twelve unrelated months.
✦How it works
Shuffle thoroughly. Lay the twelve cards clockwise starting at the top (January at twelve, February at one, and so on), then place the thirteenth card in the center. Read the theme card first, then read each month in order, then look for repeating suits or recurring archetypes across the year.
✦Position-by-Position
Tap a numbered card to explore each position.
What is the shape of this month?
Each monthly card answers the same prompt.
Frequently Asked Questions
Should I do the year ahead spread on January 1?
Any meaningful threshold works — your birthday, a new role, a move. The calendar new year is convenient but not magical. Pick a moment you'll actually remember the reading from.
Can I re-pull a month if I don't like the card?
No. The point of a year-ahead is to live with the cards across the months and see how they actually play out. Re-pulling collapses the whole purpose of the spread.
What if a month feels nothing like its card?
Wait. Some monthly cards land in the first week, some in the last, and some show up symbolically rather than literally. Revisit at the end of the month before deciding the card was 'wrong.'
